Nintendo Switch 5.0 Firmware Released

Facebook and Twitter friend suggestions, new user icons, and more.

Firmware update version 5.0 is now available for Nintendo Switch.

As outlined on Nintendo’s official support site, the update has added Facebook and Twitter Friend Suggestions, which suggests friends to add based on the Facebook and Twitter accounts linked to your Nintendo Account.

The update, which was outed earlier today, also adds 24 new ARMS and Kirby-themed user icons, as well as the ability to filter news to content from specific channels or just unread news.

Additionally, with update version 5.0, digital purchases made via a PC or smartphone/tablet will begin downloading sooner than they have in the past. To ensure privacy, the default way to enter your PIN for Parental Controls has also been changed, with the control stick now serving as the default method, rather than the on-screen keypad.

Other changes to Parental Controls have been implemented as well. Captured videos in your Album are now restricted based on your Restricted Software settings and Software Rating Organization, and the ability to add certain games to your “whitelist” so your Restricted Software settings don’t apply has also been added.

The Controllers menu has also been updated to display the grip colors of your Pro Controller. Additionally, users will now receive a notification when a pre-purchased game is ready to be played.
