The team behind Rookie Blue brings a new medical drama to Global TV

Nurses are prying the spotlight from doctors in a new Canadian medical drama.

The new show, to be called Nurses, will debut on Global TV in 2019.

It will be executive-produced by a powerhouse trio of women — Ilana Frank (Saving Hope, Rookie Blue), Vanessa Piazza (Dark Matter, Lost Girl) and Tassie Cameron (Flashpoint, Mary Kills People) — with former Saving Hope exec producer Adam Pettle as showrunner.

The series will follow four young nurses working in a busy downtown trauma centre, Global says.

According to a news release, “Forming an inextricable bond, the nurses struggle to find a work-life balance that matches and counters the intensity of their new job. Their interaction with patients, relatives, and staff quickly leads them to the discovery that nursing isn’t just about biology, chemistry, and anatomy, it’s also about psychology, compassion, and romantic complications.”

“It is great to be working on a new series with the partners that helped make Rookie Blue such a success,” Frank said in the release.

There’s no word yet on casting.
