Liam Neeson’s latest film trails Lego sequel and What Men Want

Liam Neeson’s latest movie may not be what men want.

His revenge flick Cold Pursuit made $ 10.8 million (U.S.) in its first weekend — putting the movie at a distant third behind Warner Bros.’ Lego Movie 2: The Second Part and Paramount’s What Men Want, ComScore Inc. said Sunday. It was projected to make $ 11.5 million for Lions Gate Entertainment Corp.

The film is about a snowplow driver seeking revenge against the drug dealer he thinks killed his son. Neeson has starred in several mid-range performers targeting adult males in recent years. Estimates for this film are comparable to last year’s The Commuter.

Box Office Pro had earlier said there may be room for the movie to beat estimates because it was the only film targeting older men this weekend. However, it also raised the concerns that marketing wasn’t as strong as previous Neeson movies.

The 66-year-old Irish actor stirred up controversy ahead of the film’s release when he used racially insensitive remarks in an interview when he was discussing the rape of a friend. He has apologized, and the film’s Norwegian director Hans Petter Moland said at a press conference in Berlin that Neeson’s “not racist” and is “a very honest, decent, grounded man,” Variety reported.
