John Kelly on McMaster: 'Fine American and Military Officer'

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly on Thursday praised outgoing National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster as a “fine American and military officer.”

“He has served with distinction and honor throughout his career in the U.S. Army and as the national security adviser,” Kelly said in a statement released by the White House.

“He brought and maintained discipline and energy to our vital interagency process.”

President Donald Trump announced on Twitter that former United Nations Ambassador John Bolton, 69, would replace McMaster on April 9.

McMaster, 55, a three-star Army lieutenant general on active duty, said that he would “leave public service” after retiring from the military this summer.

“He helped develop options for the president and ensured that those options were presented fully and fairly,” Kelly said of McMaster.

“A true solider-scholar, his impact on his country and this government will be felt for years to come.”
