Homeland to End With Season 8

The series will end following the 2019 season.

Showtime’s tentpole series Homeland is set to conclude with the upcoming eighth season.

According to Deadline, series star Claire Danes revealed the news during an interview on The Howard Stern Show. The host asked Danes if the drama would come to a conclusion after Season 8, to which she responded, “Yeah, that’s right.” She went on to say that she’s “really conflicted” about the show coming to an end.

“I mean, I’ll be ready. She’s a lot, this Carrie-freakin’ Mathison character,” Danes told Stern. “It’s a workout, so I’ll be ready for a reprieve from that.”

The series’ end date shouldn’t come as much of a shock as showrunner Alex Gansa has long been outspoken about his thoughts that Carrie Mathison’s story – as well as his run on the series – would come to a close at the end of the eighth season.

“It’s definitely going to be my last year,” Gansa told The Hollywood Reporter back in February. “I can’t speak for Claire or [co-star] Mandy [Patinkin], but it will be my final year and it will be designed to be the end of an eight-season story. If Showtime, Fox, Claire, and Mandy want to take the show further, that’s their decision, and we would leave some room for that to happen – if there’s an appetite.”

Showtime will have plenty of options to potentially fill the departing series’ spot with the previously announced Kingkiller Chronicles adaptation and a series produced by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.

Homeland is currently in its seventh season and is set to conclude on April 29. If you need to catch up, Netflix says the series is one that subscribers tend to take their time with.
