Hillary's Former Aides Slam Comey

Some of Hillary Clinton’s former campaign aides are heaping criticism on former FBI Director James Comey following his bombshell interview Sunday night with ABC News where he discussed, among many things, why he revealed the renewed probe into Clinton’s email practices right before the 2016 election, but did not comment publicly on Donald Trump’s possible campaign ties to Russia.

“Nobody is satisfied with anything he’s been saying,” one longtime Clinton adviser told The Hill. “We thought that Comey was always a factor in her loss, but now nobody can deny that perceptions were changed because of it.”

“I’ve made peace with it, but it’s still a punch in the gut,” the adviser said.

Comey held a televised press briefing in July 2016 to announce the Department of Justice was not recommending charges against Clinton, and generated more controversy when he sent a letter to Capitol Hill saying the FBI was reviewing more of her emails – a move Clinton and her allies say helped swing the election to Trump.

Former Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill on Twitter on Monday said the interview brought more questions than answers.

“Just 37 maybes [the word Comey used in his interview] and reopened wounds and every sign that hubris won the day and put the most self-involved, destructive leader the U.S. has ever known into the Oval Office,” he said.

Merrill also slammed Comey for “profiting” off his relationship with probes into Clinton and Trump.

Jennifer Palmieri, who served as Clinton’s communications director, told CNN on Sunday that Comey worked “very clearly outside of the bounds of how the FBI is supposed to operate,” despite saying he was “always trying to act within the bounds of how the FBI is supposed to operate.”

“What amazes me . . . is that he decided to send the letter to the Hill because of a political consideration, and that political consideration was he put it upon himself to be worried about whether or not the next president of the United States was going to be considered legitimate,” Palmieri said.
